Exploring Gold Country!
On Sunday Max, Cal Bear, and I explored the Yuba River. It is about a three hour drive from San Francisco, so we decided to split it up into two drives by staying one night in Sacramento at Max's grandmother's house. It was only an hour drive from Sacramento, so made it to the river by noon: the peak of the heat's wrath. We decided upon a swimming hole the locals call South Yuba Fork, and we were quickly clambering down the hill to get the water. By the time we had arrived, there were plenty of people who had set up camp for the day along the river bank. There was not much room left on the beach, so we waded through the water until we discovered our own spot along the rocks that was perfect. Almost instantly, we were in the water, and we did not leave for hours.

Cal Bear loved swimming alongside us in the perfect swimming hole. There was one large area that was about fifteen feet deep and perfect for leisurely swimming and laying on your back. In the middle was a rock: easy to climb up on and perfect to jump off. There were two bridges encircling the swimming hole, and one was from 1921! We swam under the bridge and came upon a rock formed a slide. As we kept swimming we came upon an underwater cave system of rocks, and even further back we discovered a waterfall and natural lazy river. Also, the whole time there are fished swimming alongside you enjoying the water. Pure bliss : ) We stayed at the swimming hole for five hours or so and eventually headed home only because we could feel ourselves burring. The day was pure perfection, and I cannot wait until we get the chance to explore again!
